Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Pick My Movie is operated by the Pick My Movie Team (“we,” “us,” or “our”). This Privacy Policy applies to the Pick My Movie mobile application and related web experience (collectively, the “App”).

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your information to track you across apps or websites owned by other companies, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide and limited technical information needed to operate and understand the App.

• Account information: email address, display name, username, Firebase user identifier, and authentication-related records. Authentication is provided by Google Firebase. We do not receive your password in readable form.
• Profile information: your optional biography, public username, display name, follower and following relationships, and profile statistics.
• Movie activity: watchlist titles, watched titles, dates marked as watched, movie preferences, saved movie metadata, and information needed to operate the random movie picker.
• Social movie data: movie activity you choose to make available for friend comparisons. You can turn off movie-activity sharing in the App’s settings.
• Installation and technical information: when an installation event is recorded, we may collect a timestamp, platform, browser or device user-agent string, standalone-app status, and your user identifier.
• Communications: information you include if you contact us for help, privacy questions, or account requests.

3. What Other Users Can See

Pick My Movie includes social features for signed-in users. Your username, display name, biography, follower/following relationships, and aggregate movie statistics may be visible to other signed-in users.

If Show Movie Activity is enabled, other signed-in users may also see shared summaries of your watchlist and watched movies and compare titles they have in common with you. Turning this setting off hides those shared movie summaries from other users. Your private account record remains restricted to your account.

4. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

• create and authenticate your account;
• sync your watchlist, watched history, profile, and picker state across devices;
• provide movie search, movie details, random selection, history, and social comparisons;
• operate, secure, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the App;
• measure installation activity and understand basic technical usage; and
• respond to support, privacy, and account requests.

5. Service Providers and Sharing

We disclose information only as needed to provide the App, comply with law, protect users, or complete a business transaction. Providers may process information under their own terms and privacy policies.

• Google Firebase: provides authentication, cloud database, synchronization, and hosting services. Firebase processes account information, user identifiers, App content, and related technical records on our behalf.
• The Movie Database (TMDB) and OMDb: provide movie search results, artwork, ratings, and metadata. Movie searches and technical request information, such as an IP address, may be processed when the App requests this content.
• Letterboxd and other external links: if you choose to open an external service, that service receives information according to its own privacy policy.
• Legal and safety disclosures: we may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, enforce our rights, investigate abuse, or protect the safety and integrity of the App and its users.
• Business transfers: information may be transferred as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, subject to applicable law.

6. Retention and Security

We retain account and App information while your account is active and as reasonably needed to provide the App, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, maintain security, and satisfy legal obligations. When information is no longer required, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it.

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect information. No storage or transmission system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

7. Your Choices and Rights

• You can update your display name and biography in the App.
• You can disable Show Movie Activity to stop sharing watchlist and watched-movie summaries with other users.
• You can clear your watchlist and watched history from the App’s settings.
• You can permanently delete your account and associated personal information from Settings → Account → Delete My Account. We ask you to re-enter your password to verify the request.
• You may also request access to or correction of your personal information by contacting us at adrew2929@icloud.com. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights regarding your personal information, including the right to appeal a decision about a privacy request or contact your local data-protection authority.

8. Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

9. International Processing

Information may be processed and stored in the United States and other countries where we or our service providers operate. Those countries may have data-protection laws different from the laws where you live.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the App or applicable requirements change. We will post the revised policy here and update the effective date. Material changes may also be communicated through the App or another appropriate channel.
